“In Christ we have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to his counsel and will, so that we, who were the first to set our hope on Christ, might live for the praise of his glory” (Ephesians 1:11-12). In the Foundation world, we love to hear about inheritances! They benefit ministries and if invested wisely may often be helpful for years to come. Paul is speaking here however, about the grandest inheritance of all. As a matter of fact, you could call it priceless and of greater value than everything else put together. This is one of those surprise inheritances; none of us saw it coming. As a matter of fact, we pretty well had written ourselves out of the will. And yet God will not settle for alienated sons and daughters. And so in Christ we have been returned to the family. How do we best respond to our inheritance? It really cannot be hoarded. Instead it is best invested by giving it away, sharing the good news of this new relationship by word and deed with others. Whom do you know who is in need of knowing about the “hope” that we have? Whom do you know who needs to know what a loving and generous God we serve? Whom do you know who needs to hear again that they are a valued part of the family? Believe this glorious truth for yourself and share it with others. Have a great week!
