“The next day he saw Jesus coming towards him and declared, ‘Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me because he was before me.’” (John 1:29-30)  Perhaps you are like me and you’re still trying to figure out what to do with the new year: diet, better exercise, more consistency in a quiet time.  Whatever the particulars of your sense of 2017, I hope that we might all join together to commit to a more John-like life.  What does that mean?  In general, it means a consistent pointing away from ourselves to Christ.  In this era of social media, that may be particularly challenging.  Still, I think a question that we need to ask ourselves is this: “Are we more concerned with keeping the spotlight on ourselves or helping others meet Jesus?”  Whatever the individual details of that might mean for you, I do hope that you will join me in seeking to live a life that better reflects the love and giving nature of our Triune God.
