“For all of us make many mistakes. Anyone who makes no mistakes in speaking is perfect, able to keep the whole body in check with a bridle. If we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we guide their whole bodies. Or look at ships: though they are so large that it takes strong winds to drive them, yet they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great exploits” (James 3:2-5).  You have to hand it to James, he doesn’t spare any punches!  But he’s right isn’t he?  If you’re anything like me, how many times have you thought: “why did I say that?” or “I sure wish I could take that back.”  How many problems come from the way that we talk to each other and far too often about each other?  And yet Christ (the very Word made flesh) is at work in us and through us. We live in a time of immediate expression with social media able to take our words and share them instantly around the world.  Does our speech edify others and point to Christ? Are we building up or tearing down?  Those are questions that I need to keep asking myself, how about you?
